COMM 220
"Multimedia Production I," out of all the classes I took, was the most beneficial for me as far as technical prowess with editing and videography. Through this class, I learned how to operate several different editing software used for different tasks, all through the Adobe Creative Cloud. These programs included Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Audition.
This class was a great connection between my schoolwork and the freelance work of editing and videography that I have done for a long time, a business I strive to grow continuously. Most of all, it connected with the programmatic learning outcomes of my specialization in Communication in Digital Media, such as adopting a professional media workflow of production, which in this case more aligned to post-production. As shown this project below was a direct result of the foundational knowledge I gained from this course, the trailer for my debut feature film, APOK, shown below in the link.
COMM 270
"Photojournalism" as a course was foundational for my knowledge of ethics in media, specifically journalism, and the messages and themes told to us all through the lens of a photo. This course was incredibly helpful for me to learn more about critically analyzing photos and journalism, and finding the truth and accuracy in news. This class acted as an information web that connected two main things, the technical aspect of photography, such as light and composition, with the aspects of storytelling and visual messages.
This course also served my specialization by teaching me how to utilize communication, specifically photojournalism in this case, to frame all sorts of local, to global issues and information. It also served my career, especially because knowing the ethics in media and the art of photojournalism not only helped me to figure out creative direction and storytelling, but also the ethics in the kind of story you tell. This was practiced through our assignments, as shown below from the photos I submitted for our Newsroom project, where we had to encapsulate a story from a real event on campus.

COMM 290
"Introduction to Media Writing," was another course that benefitted my knowledge of writing. Overall, the course focus was to provide students with a foundation of knowing what different types of writing are used throughout media industries. The course was also another great source of knowledge for using ethical reporting techniques as well as figuring out the morality of different techniques in media writing.
This course connected heavily with my sepcialization as it pinpointed exactly to create content whilst meeting ethical expectations in my own career. This class was a very important resource for my career, as through it I was able to even learn how to create official documents, such as a PR plan for a company, as seen below in the final group project that we worked on during class.

COMM 312
"Persuasion Theories" was another building block in my education and career towards helping me to understand how I can conduct myself professionally in person and through media, by helping me understand foundational theories that have informed the study of persuasion.
This classes learning techniques were most often exhibited through our analysis of how elites and industry professionals conduct themselves and use peruasion theories to grapple and find solutions to a variety of different issues in culture. This class mostly taught me how to accurately and ethically apply specific persuasion theories in my own life and career to solve my own issues that I may come across, also applying heavily to my specialization. My demonstration of knowledge on persuasion theories and how people have used them is shown through these few slides from my presentation of Elizabeth Holmes, the past CEO of Theranos known for a large widespread scandal.

COMM 209
"Introduction to Communication Research" was a course that acted as the fundamental buildings blocks for my specialization at Indiana State University, having gave me information that I would proceed to use for the rest of my career and education. This classes importance and use was specifically exhibited by helping me to learn the basic vocabulary of research methods, and knowing how to accurately perform data analysis and collection.
This courses learning outcomes connected directly to the learning outcomes of my major, with one of the outcomes being to "identify critical issues and theories related to the contemporary media environment," knowledge that is useful both for my career and towards my major, especially since I have been able to use it in critically accessing my own client work occasionally.
Most commonly, this classes work would come through discussions, as shown below.

COMM 433
"Media Criticism" was another course that was pivotal in my knowledge of how to accurately analyze and understand the media that I see everywhere, especially in various forms of it.
This class introduced the concept of studying and understanding different aspects of media under a focused lens. This included concepts like textual analysis, producer studies and the reception from audiences to form an idea of how different forms of media can warrant different perspectives and reception based on their message, themes, and how they were produced.
For me, this class was incredibly helpful and important to both my major specialiation as well as my actual career as a filmmaker and videographer. For my specialization, this course helped me to frame local and global issues whilst utlizing the communication taught to me through this class, a core learning outcome of my specialization. For my career, this class directly helped in my screenwriting skills, as analyzing what works and what doesn't has helped me greatly in weeding out what kind of content I write, as shown below.
(Note: Script content cannot be shown, content is sensitive. Full film releases November 13th, 2026, as proof of concept)

COMM 435
"Digital Storytelling" was another very important course for both my degree and career longterm. this course placed much of its emphasis on learning how to storytell and reach audiences amidst the most media accessible time in history, but also, arguably, the most oversaturated.
This course was once again pivotal in my understanding of reaching audiences through my works and through what I produce to send a message. Mostly, it taught me that digital storytelling is not just about finding different ways to send a message and storytell in todays time, but more so about knowing how storytell differs between different mediums, and how to tell a story effectively and efficiently.
This class directly factors into my specializations learning outcome of learning how to adopt a professional workflow of production and distribution of messages. The impact this work had was innumerable, directly factoring into my different ways of storytelling and even software usage, as shown below in this twine passage used for this class.

COMM 472
"Social Media Management" was a course that served as an upper-level course that helped me to understand different social media programs and how to market yourself as a business entity or similiar.
This course helped me to understand the importance of marketing, even more so because marketing within filmmaking is the only way to grow your business and to grow your own films, which is why the content really stuck with me long term. Knowing the ways to manage my own online reputation and to produce worthy content of my skills is something that I need to know for the future of my business. Not only this, but the knowledge I gained of technologies and how they operate in ways I had no idea about was something that also served as important information for me in my career.
This course helped me to understand one of the core learning outcomes of my career, which is to create content that meets ethical expectations for communication and adapt to the diverse needs of people. Most notably, I used what I learned from this class in my business instagram, as seen below.
